New York (Times Of Ocean)- Iran executed at least 280 people in 2021, according to a report published by the UN special rapporteur on the country. At least 10 of those executed were women, but an Iranian official called the report “biased and politically motivated.”
The Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Javaid Rehman says the number of executions for charges related to narcotics laws had risen.
“In 2021, at least 280 people, including at least 10 women, were executed,” he said.
According to the UN Human Rights Council report, the number of women being executed had increased as well.
The Islamic judiciary authority in Iran criticizes the UN special rapporteur, saying he has favoured a “biased and politically-motivated approach.”
