Iranian soccer team’s bank accounts blocked as it qualifies FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

SportIranian soccer team's bank accounts blocked as it qualifies FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Tehran (Times Of Ocean)- The bank accounts of the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran have been closed due to tax debts.

The Chairman of the legal committee of Iran’s Football Federation, Safiullah Faghanpour has stated that the amount of tax debt of this federation is about US$19 billion.

Faghanpour said the Raisi administration must intervene in such cases and support the national team.

Such moves can be harmful even when Iran became the first team from Asia to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar with a 1-0 win over Iraq in Tehran last month.

According to Iranian media, the bank accounts were closed after previous tax warning to the federation.

Experts expressed concern, saying it inflicted “serious damage” to the team’s World Cup preparations.

Iran secured a third straight World Cup appearance with a 1-0 win over Iraq at Azadi Stadium, Tehran.
