Tel Aviv (The Times Groupe)- The Israeli government announced Monday that it will table a bill next week to dissolve the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) and appoint Yair Lapid as prime minister, state media reported.

Next week, the Knesset will vote on the agreement, and Lapid will take over as premier until new elections are held.

According to Israeli Channel 12, Israel will hold its fifth general election in four years on October 25.

In June 2021, Lapid and Bennett formed a coalition that ended the rule of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As a result, a handful of members withdrew from the coalition, ending their parliamentary majority.

As a result of the Knesset’s failure to extend an emergency bill regarding Israeli settlers living in the occupied West Bank, the Bennett-Lapid coalition’s situation worsened.
