Europe (The Times Groupe)- The rise of far-right movements in Europe should not be underestimated, a prominent Spanish journalist and author on the subject warned Thursday.
Anadolu Agency spoke with Miguel Gonzalez, the author of a recent book on Spain’s far-right Vox party.
The Spanish journalist said that the far right in Europe has a common view on Muslim immigration, and that the financing of these parties should be examined. Basically, “Vox has an ideology of Spanish national sovereignty,” he said.
According to him, a positive correlation exists between the rise of far-right tendencies in Basque Country (Euskadi), an autonomous community in northern Spain, and the emergence of separatist tendencies in the country.
However, he emphasized that the far-right base in Spain is not as broad as it is in France.
Gonzalez claimed that the conservative People’s Party (PP) contributed to Vox’s success. In his view, the PP has always been linked to far-right tendencies and movements in Spain.
