Tallinn (The Times Groupe)- South Korea became the first Asian nation to join NATO’s cyber defense group on Thursday, according to the country’s National Intelligence Service (NIS).

The NIS has been admitted to the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence (CCDCOE) based in Tallinn, Estonia, Yonhap News reported.

Now, 32 countries, including 27 NATO members, are part of the group.

It will represent South Korea in the training and research activities of the center.”

“The NIS plans to make our cyber response capabilities world-class by increasing the number of staff sent to the center and expanding the scope of joint training,” it said.

The CCDCOE was established in 2008 in response to an alleged Russian cyberattack that “crippled” Estonia’s state networks.
