Washington (The Times Groupe)- A shooting on Sunday in Washington, D.C. left a 15-year-old boy dead and three injured, including a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer.
According to Washington Police Chief Robert Contee, the victims were shot around 6 p.m. Eastern Time (2200GMT).
It took place during an unpermitted Juneteenth celebration, according to Contee.
At a press conference, Contee told reporters the police officer and two injured adults are recovering in area hospitals.
In addition, a handgun was used in the shooting and police did not shoot the suspect.
Contee said he does not know whether the boy was targeted, and police are in the preliminary stages of investigating.
“This is unacceptable…We need to make sure that individuals are held accountable for their actions,” he added.
There was an incident at a Virginia mall the day before the shooting.
Hundreds of people fled and sought shelter in Tysons Corner Center shopping mall after a fight broke out between a small group and a Black man on Saturday. There were no casualties.
