Switzerland rejects Denmark’s arms request

Russia Ukraine WarSwitzerland rejects Denmark's arms request

Bern (The Times Groupe)- Swiss Government said it will not honor Denmark’s request to send nearly two dozen Swiss-made armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, citing Swiss neutrality law that prohibits the export of military hardware to a country at war.

This announcement demonstrates the fine line Swiss authorities are walking to maintain neutrality as outlined in the War Materiel Act, which prohibits the transfer of Swiss-made weapons, ammunition, and other war material to a country engaged in an international conflict.

Denmark had asked Switzerland to transfer 22 Piranha III wheeled armored personnel carriers made in Switzerland that Denmark had purchased and stored in Germany to Ukraine. In the past, the Switzerland’s government rejected a German request to send Swiss-made 35mm ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine.
