Taiwanese military jet ‘missing,’ the pilot is safe

WorldTaiwanese military jet 'missing,' the pilot is safe

Taipei (Times Of Ocean)- The self-ruled Taiwanese Defense Ministry’s Defense Ministry said a military jet went missing after taking off for a combat training flight on Monday. The pilot is safe.

The ministry said a Mirage 2000-5 fighter jet of Taiwan’s Air Force was in flight for routine training when it suffered “mechanical failure”, and the pilot ejected.

In an emergency parachute jump, the pilot, Lt. Col. Huang Chung-kai, ejected 10 miles south of the airbase. According to the statement, he was hospitalized and is stable.

China’s public broadcaster CGTN reports that the military jet “crashed into waters some 10 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan.”

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said a rescue operation is underway to locate the missing jet.

The report stated that a task force would investigate the cause of the incident.

In early January, Taiwan grounded its 140 F-16 fighter jets after an upgraded model crashed into the sea.

F-16V jet had gone missing after taking off from Chiayi Air Base in southern Taiwan for routine training, the island’s National Rescue Command Center had reported.

Authorities found debris from the missing aircraft and what they believe are the remains of pilot Capt. Chen Yi, 28, after days of intensive search efforts. Taipei
