WorldWildfire in Turkey's Marmaris largely under control

Antalia (The Times Groupe)- The wildfire that raged overnight in Turkey’s Mugla province has been largely contained, a minister said.

The Agriculture and Forestry Minister Vahit Kirisci told Anadolu Agency he was hopeful that the forest fire in Marmaris would be completely extinguished by Wednesday.

After conducting an aerial inspection of the area with Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, Kirisci said strong winds could cause the blaze to spread.

A total of 571 firefighting vehicles and aircraft are involved in ground and aerial operations coordinated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

As of an earlier update, AFAD had deployed 1,393 personnel, including 592 from the General Directorate of Forestry, as well as 338 vehicles and 35 construction equipment units.

Soylu said Erdogan has been in contact with relevant officials and authorities about the situation.

It is unclear what caused the fire, according to Mugla’s chief public prosecutor, Mehmet Nadir Yagci. antalia
